Indian Maritime University (Govt. of India), Kolkata Campus, World Maritime Day Celebration 2021

International shipping transports more than 80 per cent of global trade to peoples and communities all over the world. Without the international transportation of goods which is facilitated by those in the maritime industry, the world's economy may be unable to function.

IMO, as a specialized agency of the United Nations, is the global standard-setting authority for the safety, security and environmental performance of international shipping. Its main role is to create a regulatory framework for the shipping industry that is fair and effective, universally adopted and universally implemented.

World Maritime Day is celebrated annually to offer an opportunity to focus its attention on the significance of shipping as well as other maritime activities and to emphasize a particular aspect of the work of the International Maritime Organization.

The purpose of the World Maritime Day is to appreciate the importance of maritime industry and to underline the importance of maritime security, maritime environment, safety, and shipping.

The world Maritime Day 2021, this year's theme is, “seafarers, at the core of shipping's future”.
