Are you a Safety Vigilant on board ?
All person on board must be safety vigilant at all time and must maintain safety culture at high standard. Company have policy to appoint “Safety Officer” or a “Safety Representative” to achieve zero incident / accident. Few company motivate crew by giving awards, prizes who maintain safety policy and return home without injury/accident on board.
“Safety Officer” or a “Safety Representative”, duty can be performed by any crew members who are above 18 yrs age and not less than 2 years consecutive sea service. in case of tanker, 6 months service on tanker. Crew also have to complete company specified in house courses for Safety officer if he intend to undertake duty of Safety officer.
Safety officer must be familiar with Personal Safety, Ship’s General Safety, ISM code of vessel/company, all the documents of vessel and company, Human Relations and responsibility, Risk Assessment and Incident Investigation.
