By Sea and Coast | 12/08/2023
Norvic Shipping, a prominent dry bulk owner and operator, has taken a significant stride towards reinforcing its commitment to environmental responsibility and fuel efficiency with the recent inclusion of the Ultramax vessel, Norvic Copenhagen, into its esteemed fleet. The vessel's incorporation marks a strategic move by Norvic Shipping to meet the escalating demand for greener shipping solutions while adhering to stringent environmental regulations.

The ceremonious handover of Norvic Copenhagen, boasting an impressive capacity of 64,000 deadweight tons (dwt), transpired at the illustrious Imabari Shipyard in Japan. This milestone event stands as a testament to Norvic Shipping's proactive stance in adapting to the evolving maritime landscape, characterized by an increasing emphasis on sustainability and emission reduction.

The vessel's operational prowess is augmented by the integration of a state-of-the-art low-speed electronically controlled marine engine, a hallmark of MAN Energy Solutions. This sophisticated engineering empowers Norvic Copenhagen to attain remarkable fuel efficiency, meticulous control over combustion, reduced emissions, adaptability to alternative fuels, enhanced operational flexibility, minimized noise levels, and an extended operational lifespan.

Importantly, Norvic Copenhagen emerges as a pivotal asset in Norvic Shipping's strategy to not only navigate the evolving regulatory frameworks but also align with industry-wide efforts to mitigate carbon intensity. By embracing advanced technologies and innovative design, Norvic Shipping positions itself as a trailblazer in the pursuit of sustainable maritime operations.

AJ Rahman, the Group Chairman and CEO of Norvic Shipping, affirmed, "Acquiring dry-bulk vessels on lengthy charters is part of Norvic’s strategy to expand our long-term fleet, ensuring we meet increased demand from our customers for efficient ships." This strategic foresight underpins Norvic Shipping's commitment to providing a modern and environmentally conscious fleet that caters to the evolving needs of their clientele.

The introduction of Norvic Copenhagen stands as a testament to Norvic Shipping's dedication to fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and compliance with the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII). The vessel's acquisition underscores Norvic Shipping's resolute commitment to not only embrace existing environmental regulations but to actively contribute to the industry's ongoing sustainability evolution.

Looking ahead, Norvic Shipping is poised to further fortify its sustainable fleet with the addition of two more vessels in the coming months, each with a capacity of 40,000 dwt. These handysize vessels, named Norvic Houston and Norvic Singapore, are poised to extend Norvic Shipping's trailblazing commitment to eco-friendly shipping solutions.

Founded in 2012, Norvic Shipping has rapidly established itself as a leader in the dry bulk sector, boasting the capacity to annually transport over 60 million metric tonnes of cargo. Through strategic partnerships, technological innovation, and a steadfast dedication to environmental stewardship, Norvic Shipping is charting a course towards a more sustainable and greener future for maritime operations.
