German shipping company HGK Shipping has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hydrogenious LOHC Maritime and Hydrogenious LOHC Technologies to develop a revolutionary solution for making hydrogen available as an energy source on a large scale. The cutting-edge technology will be based on a liquid organic hydrogen carrier (LOHC), which binds hydrogen in liquid form. The hydrogen will be released from the LOHC to feed a fuel cell, which will propel the ship. The company plans to develop a demonstration vessel by 2028, which will showcase the new technology's capabilities.
In addition to this exciting news, HGK Shipping also celebrated the christening of two new chemical tankers, Courage and Curiosity, in Cologne, Germany. The company expressed gratitude to all involved in the project and wished the crew a safe journey. The two new tankers will provide much-needed support for the shipping industry and help transport essential chemicals safely and efficiently.
HGK Shipping has been making great strides towards sustainable transportation, as evidenced by their recent long-term cooperation agreement with the Port of Rotterdam Authority. The agreement focuses on promoting sustainable concepts for inland waterway services, with an emphasis on the energy revolution, logistics for hydrogen, and reducing CO2 emissions through innovative drive concepts and digitalization.
