HEEREMA’S VESSEL COMPLETES DECOMMISSIONING OF TLP IN GULF OF MEXICO

On behalf of Eni, Heerema Marine Contractors' deepwater construction vessel (DCV) Balder finished the offshore dismantling of the Morpeth tension leg platform (TLP) in the United States Gulf of Mexico last month.

The Balder vessel, which was built in 1978, arrived in the Morpeth deepwater field in mid-April to begin removing the TLP as part of a programme that included engineering, preparation, removal, and disposal of the offshore infrastructure, according to Heerema.

The topside weighed 2650 short tonnes, the hull weighed 2500 short tonnes, and the tendons and piles weighed 1300 short tonnes.

The upper side was transferred by barge, the tendons and piles aboard supply boats, and the hull was wet towed for recycling at MARS (Modern American Recycling Services) sites around the United States once the elements were successfully removed.
