Melbourne Port welcomes largest container capacity ship

The Largest container ship with a capacity of 10,662 teu has been welcomed at the Victoria International Container Terminal Webb Dock in the Port of Melbourne (PoM).

Port of Melbourne will see a major increase in the load carrying capacity as compared to the 4,500 teu carried by the the average container ship that currently calls at the same port.

Brendan Bourke, CEO at PoM quoted, “The arrival of CMA CGM Ural show’s PoM’S capacity service with growing number of bigger vessels we’ll see in the future”,

Bourke took into account that the ship’s advent will be a sign of Australia-Asia trade’s solidity, given the strain caused by coronavirus and recent natural disasters.

Anthony Orgill, general manager Asia ANZ Lines quoted, “By implementing larger container ships into our services, we can support clients operating between Australia, South East Asia and beyond”.

CMA CGM Ural will be in Melbourne for 44 hours before departing for Brisbane and Sydney.
